Dear Student,

In continuation of my previous message, you may find below the content, including several links, of a recent LinkedIn post inspired by a lecture on in silico medicine that  I gave at my home town Sparta, Lacedaemon, Greece on 21 December 2024. The link to the LinkedIn post is LINK TO THE LinkedIn POST.

The post provides, inter alia,  a link to my  fully recorded lecture on YouTube and the subsequent discussion. The duration of the video is more than 1.5 hours.

With my best wishes

Georgios Stamatakos

Research Professor, NTUA ( ICCS, ECE)

ΙΝ SILICO MEDICINE: A new scientific discipline emerges in Greece
IN SILICO ΙΑΤΡΙΚΗ: Mια νέα επιστημονική περιοχή γεννιέται στην Ελλάδα

YouTube video available at:

This video presents an introduction to in silico medicine, its emergence in Greece in 2002, its initial shaping steps, its current landscape including in silico clinical trials, its vast clinical potential, its demanding clinical validation, its intensive regulatory activity and its running clinical translation. These subjects are illustrated with several examples, with special emphasis on the paradigm of in silico oncology. The pivotal roles played and being played by the international Virtual Physiological Human Institute (VPHi) (VPH Institute) and the Avicenna Alliance - Association for Predictive Medicine (Avicenna Alliance) for the development of in silico medicine are also outlined. The above items constitute the major components of the recorded lecture that was delivered by the “father of in silico medicine” Research Professor Georgios S. Stamatakos, In Silico Oncology and In Silico Medicine Group ICCS-ECE-NTUA, ICCS - NTUA, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering - NTUA, National Technical University of Athens, at sparta.komvos, located in his hometown Sparta, Greece, on 21 December 2024. The speaker was invited by the Director of sparta.komvos and Executive Director of the Brussels - based FOGGS - Foundation for Global Governance and Sustainability Dr Georgios Kostakos . The whole event was organized by sparta.komvos in cooperation with FOGGS - Foundation for Global Governance and Sustainability. The language of the lecture was Greek, just as Greek was the language of birth and initial shaping of classical medicine that took place in the very same European country about 2.5 millenia ago. Nonetheless, plenty of directly connected material is available in English and is readily accessible as described below. A multifaceted discussion, that took place after the lecture and was moderated by Dr Georgios Kostakos, has also been recorded. In addition to the purely scientific and technical matters, recurrent references to the renaissance ideal of “homo/femina universalis” have been made. This ideal appears to be particularly relevant nowadays, in view of the necessity to address the massive multidisciplinarity imposed by the hypercomplex scientific problems being addressed.
