Section outline

  • Set Theory studies certain collections of objects, called sets, together with their fundamental properties. One of the main motivations for its development was the attempt to understand the nature of infinity.

Beyond the basic operations on sets, Set Theory lays out an axiomatic framework that provides a foundation for modern Mathematics.

It has also brought to light the different forms of infinity and established their role in other areas of Mathematics.

Modern Set Theory covers a wide range of topics, from the study of the real line to questions concerning the consistency of axioms through the use of large cardinals.

The aim of this course is to introduce the basic concepts and fundamental theorems of Set Theory. These provide valuable tools for understanding advanced Mathematics and form an essential basis for further study of the subject.
